The Best & Most Unique Self-Care Activities to Help With Managing Anxiety & Depression Part 1

Self-care, it’s a very important and vital part of our health, yet many of us neglect it. There are many reasons as to why, but I’m here to tell you it’s time to stop neglecting it. Engaging in self- care has many positive health benefits. Not just physically, but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually as well.

Physically, self-care ensures that we are treating and fueling our bodies to the best of our abilities. Mentally, self-care ensures that we are doing everything in our power to live in a blissful state of mind. This means we are looking after our mental health, we are challenging our minds, and most importantly we are keeping our brain healthy. Emotionally, self-care ensures that we are making ourselves a priority. Life gets busy and things get in the way, but that’s never an excuse to not make time for yourself. Finally spiritually, self-care ensures that we doing our best to live authentically.

For years I have neglected properly taking care of myself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. A big part of this neglect was a combination of my severe anxiety and depression that I had sunk into as I experienced specific things in life. Another part of this was due to the fact that I didn’t understand what self-care was, or what it looked like. Together these two made me feel like taking care of myself wasn’t a priority, and so long as I wasn’t on the floor dying, I was ok.

I was wrong. [Read more…]

Stretch Before You Snooze: Why it’s Important to Stretch Every Night before Bed

Stretching, it’s one of those things some people faithfully engage in and some don’t.

But first…

Do you stretch every single day? Or maybe at least once a week? Are you a stretcher? I have a better question, one that may be easier to answer. When was the last time you stretched?

If your answer is “no” to any of the questions stated above, and you can’t recall the last time you stretched, we need to have a serious talk. Let me start off by saying that I too do not stretch as often as I should and would like to, but since incorporating stretching into my daily nighttime routine I am finding it easier to do so.

Like for most of you, the day gets very busy for me, very quickly. I get lost in all the chaos and distractions, and by the time the night rolls around all I want to do is go to bed, rest up, and get in a good headspace to start the next day on the right foot. As a result of this I use to work out during the day and end my day literally just plopping into bed. It’s life. It’s happens. I’m not judging, I hope you’re not judging, because at the end of the day we’re only human.

So it’s all gravy here!

However, it’s no excuse to not take that extra five minutes of your day to show your body, especially your muscles, some TLC at least once during the day. It’s taken me years to understand that, and about 2 years of hardcore dedication to drill it through my thick skull. It is because of my discipline when it comes to stretching that I’m sharing my knowledge about the importance of stretching with you! [Read more…]

The Positive Health Benefits of Doing Yoga

Yoga. Some love it, some not so much. Whether you are a yoga lover or simply a yoga doer (or maybe you could care less about yoga), there’s no denying that participating in yoga has many positive health benefits. I love yoga. I find it to be very relaxing, strengthening, and in some cases empowering. I haven’t always had a love for yoga. In fact it took me a very long time to find my rhythm with yoga.

When I use to practice yoga I always found that I was exhausted afterwards. Yoga is meant to be challenging, but not in a manner where you have exhausted all of your energy. After a yoga session I would be so exhausted that I always ended up falling asleep when I was done. As a result of this I didn’t really practice yoga as often as I wanted to because I didn’t like the idea of not having any energy to be able to do anything else afterwards.

However, two years ago I started practicing yoga once a week for an hour of day. Since it took me a while to find my groove with yoga, a lot of the same experiences I was having prior to practicing yoga once a week were still happening for me. I was finding that I was still exhausted afterwards and that all I wanted to do was sleep. It took me about 2 months of consistently practicing yoga once a week to be able to shake these effects from the practice. [Read more…]

3 Reasons Why Self-Care Is Important and How You Can Create Your Very Own Self-Care Kit!

Self-care is so important! If you’re new to the blog then this is the first thing you should know about me. I place a high value on self-care simply because it has many positive health benefits. In addition to having many positive health benefits, self-care is by far one of the easiest ways we can actually take care of ourselves. While it does require time and effort, it also always revolves around something that you enjoy doing. So instead of feeling like you’re setting aside an hour of free time to do “work” or get “physically active for your health”, it often times feels as though you’re setting aside an hour of free time for personal use.

This hour of free time for personal use is the time that you actually use for personal use. Just instead of maybe sleeping or sitting on your phone scrolling through Facebook you’re doing something good for your health and wellness. This can include all areas of our health and wellness, such as our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual parts, or it can include only one area. Either way this intentional hour you have chosen to use for engaging in self-care will be the hour to recharge yourself for the day, and motivate you to make a daily habit out of doing so.

There are a ton of reasons as to why I’m such a big supporter of engaging in daily self-care. I’ve even created a list of 50 of the best self-care activities anyone can do, but I’ll share my top 3 with you instead. [Read more…]

Controlling the Overwhelm: 10 Things to Do to Relieve Yourself of Stress

September 5, 2018 by Kimora Chanel

Feeling overwhelmed? Are you taking on more responsibility than what may be needed? Maybe you’re piling your plate up with more than what you can handle?

If this sounds anything like you I want you to know two things. One, you are not alone. I find myself doing everything I just stated above way more than I would like to admit, and way more than I should be doing. The second thing I want you to know is that if you can identify with anything I stated above, chances are you understand what it’s like to experience a great amount of stress, in such a short amount of time, as a result of overextending yourself.

This my friend has many names. Some that you may be familiar with are overwhelm, anxiety, and exhaustion. However, this feeling is most notably known as stress.

Stress is our body’s way of responding to overstimulation. When we experience a great deal of stress our body goes into defense mode. As a result of that we enter a “fight-or-flight” state of mind, better known as a stress response, which is our body’s way of protecting us.

Doesn’t sound too bad, right? Well it’s not, but if you’re a chronic stressor like me then you know that it can be very exhausting, and at times painful to constantly be under stress. There are many things you can do to help minimize your stress levels, such as squeezing a stress ball or even talking to someone about what’s going on.

However, while minimizing your stress levels is always a great start to experiencing less stress, it’s only temporary. To experience lower levels of stress more often your goal should be to relieve your mind and body of stress. To do this requires a little bit more effort, technique, and skill than just squeezing a stress ball or talking to someone. [Read more…]
