The Right Way to Set Weight Loss Goals

February 1, 2021 by Kimora Chanel

Something that has always been such a giant question mark to me is why people put so much value, and draw so much attention to an individual’s weight. From a medical perspective I can understand 100% why anybody’s weight would be an important topic of discussion. Outside of that, I will never understand why.

Of course, there are countless society pressures and influences that draw our attention to what it does or does not mean to be healthy. Unfortunately, outside of what your body looks like, as a society we tend to determine health by a person’s weight. An assumed weight that is, since of course we are all conditioned to look at specific body types and assume that they may or may not be carrying a healthy weight.

This drives me insane because with the sometimes-toxic perspective that we as a society hold about what a healthy weight/body type looks like (especially for women), it often drives people to want to lose weight for all the wrong reasons.

Just to clarify, I do 100% believe in everyone having the right to do whatever it is that they want and are comfortable with doing with their bodies. That goes for men and women.

What bothers me is when anyone’s reasoning behind a weight loss goal is strictly influenced based on society’s views and definition of what is healthy and beautiful. When you allow society to tell you that your body type is equal to an unhealthy weight, and you create weight loss goals based on what society has told you (and not your doctor), this can make it very hard for you to achieve your goals.

If weight loss is a goal of yours, something that you have been striving to achieve for a while, or maybe just something you are considering doing just to feel more confident in your own skin, this post is for you.

As a health and wellness coach who wholeheartedly supports caring for all areas of your health in a safe, supportive, and holistic way, here is the right way to set weight loss goals (if you want to be successful with doing so). [Read more…]

The Best Tips to Increase Your Confidence

December 14, 2020 by Kimora Chanel

Confidence plays such a vital role in our lives in more ways than one. Confidence gives us the genuine belief that we can truly accomplish anything we set our minds to. It helps us to believe that no matter what path in life we choose to take we will be successful. It also helps us believe that we are unconditionally loved and accepted as we are by those we love.

Confidence changes the game on a completely different level! I can honestly say that there are so many great things that I have accomplished, and plan to accomplish now in my life, that teenage me would have never even dreamed of doing. I know that this comes from my journey with increasing my confidence.

However, confidence does more than just push and encourage us to grow into the best versions of ourselves. It allows us to feel 100% secure and comfortable in our own skin. What does that get us? It allows us to create the life that we desire. A life that is full of joy, is very meaningful, and gives us the confidence to continue to strive for more.

When you are confident in who you are and everything that you have to offer to others, you are unstoppable. Maybe not in the literal sense, but there truly is nothing that can make you fear operating in your full potential. Confidence also helps us to feel secure with everything that makes us who we are, flaws and all.

So how do we get to this point in our lives? What is the journey of increasing your confidence like? Read below to learn my top secrets to increasing your confidence and how it can help you finally start creating the life you have always dreamed of. [Read more…]

Overcoming Guilt and Shame to Reach Your Goals

November 9, 2020 by Kimora Chanel

Guilt and shame tend to hold us back from achieving a lot of things in our life. It can hold us back from following our dreams, seeing a major commitment to something all the way through, from remaining consistent with our self-care and wellness routine, as well as from reaching our goals.

This is because when we make ourselves feel guilty or shameful about not doing something, we are essentially making ourselves feel as though we have done something wrong.

We often times get stuck in this rumination about that guilt or shame, and for some of us it can be hard to move past those feelings immediately. So, we end up just waiting in these negative feelings for a light to shine down on us and motivate us to get back up and try again.

But does guilt and shame affect us differently? Is it possible that we can feel guilty about not staying committed to a goal, and still be able to achieve that goal in the timeframe we originally set? Is it possible to shame ourselves about not staying committed to a goal, and still have the desire to reach it?

Believe it or not guilt and shame are one in the same. They both encompass negative emotions that are directed towards the self.

The way they differ is in how we choose to let those emotions hit us. We can shame ourselves, which is actually never a good thing to do (more on that later) and still do what we know deep down inside is the right thing to do. We can also make ourselves feel guilty about something and move on just as easily.

Guilt and shame and the connection they have to reaching your goals greatly depends on the kind of relationship you have with these two emotions. In today’s post I’m going to share with you the differences between guilt and shame, and the direct connection they have to reaching your goals. [Read more…]

What It Means to Be Body Positive

August 16, 2020 by Kimora Chanel

What does body positivity mean to you?

I hear so many different perspectives on this topic all the time. I’ve heard that to be body positive means that you accept yourself as you are and don’t go out of your way to change anything about you. I’ve also heard that to be body positive is to encourage other women to achieve a healthier health status such as to lose weight (this one I’m not so sure about). These are just a few of the things that I’ve seen online.

I’ve even heard that only women can be body positive. In other words, it’s a woman’s thing.

I’ve heard a lot of things about what it means to be body positive both in the online world and outside of it. Some of it are good perspectives that I agree with, others are what I would consider to be perspectives that are just downright ridiculous. So, I’m curious as to how you may define what it means to be body positive, and do you think this is something directed only towards women.

I believe that body positivity is not simply black and white. It’s not one specific thing minus a ton of other specific things or vice versa. Rather I believe it’s a combination of a ton of important factors minus one big major factor.

Curious to know my thoughts? Well I’m anxious to share them! Check out what I have to say down below. [Read more…]

The Importance of Self-Care and Why Everyone Should Do It

August 10, 2020 by Kimora Chanel

Do you practice self-care often? Do you understand the importance of self-care?

Lately it seems like self-care is a trend that everyone is doing and encouraging others to do as a means to just be a part of something cool. While I love self-care and highly encourage everyone to practice it daily, I also understand that it’s not a trend. Self-care isn’t something that you just pick up out of the blue, stick with for a while until it’s no longer serving you, and then drop like it’s nothing.

Oh no honey. Self-care is so much more than that!

Self-care is the act of effectively taking care of your mental, emotional, and physical well-being. It’s the process of doing the necessary inner work in order to allow yourself to grow into your full potential. While the majority of self-care is inner work, that’s not all that self-care is.

Self-care is also the skill to be able to reset and center yourself. It’s the ability to be able to easily call forth a skill or ability to regulate your mood and/or thoughts. Essentially self-care is the awareness you have of yourself and the ability to use that awareness in ways that can help you give yourself what it needs in order to regulate yourself.

There’s a constant debate about what self-care is and what it’s not. However, there are many different ways to engage in self-care despite what others have to say about it. The most important thing to know about self-care is that it’s a lot of work, but it’s necessary work if you want to be the best version of yourself.

I’m going to share with you some of the many reasons why practicing self-care is important, as well as some self-care activities that you can do. [Read more…]
