Get the Most Out of Your Thanksgiving with These 5 Health & Wellness Tips

November 6, 2018 by Kimora Chanel

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILATE LINKS. PLEASE READ MY DISCLOSURE FOR MORE INFO.

Thanksgiving is on the rise. With the Fall season in full swing, and my favorite holiday out of the way, it’s time to make room for the second day out of the entire year that I look to the most simply because of the food. That’s right folks, it’s time to make room for Thanksgiving!

Man, oh man I love me some Thanksgiving dinner! The mashed potatoes, cornbread (my favorite!), green beans, greens made with jalapeno peppers, mac and cheese, and of course the Turkey (Cajun flavor). My mouth is watering already.

Thanksgiving is usually the holiday where we all give ourselves a pass on eating healthy or at least being health conscious about what we are putting into our bodies. I don’t know about you, but it most certainly is the one holiday where I allow myself to slack off on working out! It’s not because I get lazy or anything like that, but mainly because I want to enjoy the holiday. Which means I want to enjoy the delicious food.

If this sounds anything like you then don’t worry. I’ve got you covered. You don’t have to let this Thanksgiving be the year that you repeat the cycle, or start to create the cycle of pressing pause on all your health and wellness goals for the rest of the year. Yes, we all want to enjoy the holiday without the stress or pressure of putting our health and wellness goals first, and the amazing thing about this process is that we can! We can still enjoy everything Thanksgiving has to offer and so much more, while staying on top of our health and wellness. [Read more…]

The Number One Workout Series to Help You Stay in Shape During and After Halloween

October 23, 2018 by Kimora Chanel

Hands up if you’re beyond excited that Halloween is just days away!!!!

If you haven’t caught on by now, or if you are new to the blog (welcome by the way!), Halloween is by far my favorite holiday! I love all the costumes, even though I very rarely dress up for Halloween. I love all the candy that the kids indulge on for the month of October, even though I’m not a huge candy eater myself. I’m such a huge fan of all the Halloween themed parties that people throw every year, even though I always admire from a far, and have failed to host my very own Halloween themed party (but one day I will!). I love the thrill of trick-or-treating with the little ones, even if that means I have to freeze my ass off for a good hour. I of course love all the Halloween movies that I can finally watch without judgement from others!

There’s so much to love about this holiday but these are by far my favorite! Since there are so many reasons why one should and can very easily fall in love with this spooky holiday, there are also many reasons why one can lose sight of their health and wellness goals. Especially with Thanksgiving and Christmas approaching.

No shame if this is you because this is me too! [Read more…]

The Best Tips to Help You Stay Healthy This Halloween

October 10, 2018 by Kimora Chanel

Hands up if you tend to lose sight of all your health and wellness goals when Halloween finally comes around.

You forget that you were on a journey of incorporating and maintain an effective wellness routine into your daily routine, and instead find yourself blacking out during the whole month of October. This blackout consists of eating all the delicious Halloween treats, catching the lazy bug and lounging on your couch or in your bed all day watching Halloween movies, and of course chowing down on candy whenever you can. If you are experiencing, have experienced, or know that you will more than likely experience this Halloween blackout, you are not alone.

For those of you who are wondering yes, my hand went up. In fact, both of my hands went up because I will be the first to unapologetically admit, that when Halloween finally comes around I experience this Halloween blackout big time! I am famously known for spending the entire month of October indulging in candy, lying in bed all day watching Halloween movies, obsessing over Halloween make-up tutorials, making all the DIY Halloween treats I can find, and much more.

Plus, right after Halloween is Thanksgiving and I can’t control myself any better during that holiday than I can during this holiday. I blackout in the month of October and somehow that blackout follows me into the month of November, and well it’s just downhill for the rest of the year. So to save all of us some time in relieving in some of my best Halloween blackout moments, let’s just say the Halloween blackout struggle is real! [Read more…]

3 Reasons Why Self-Care Is Important and How You Can Create Your Very Own Self-Care Kit!

September 25, 2018 by Kimora Chanel

Self-care is so important! If you’re new to the blog then this is the first thing you should know about me. I place a high value on self-care simply because it has many positive health benefits. In addition to having many positive health benefits, self-care is by far one of the easiest ways we can actually take care of ourselves. While it does require time and effort, it also always revolves around something that you enjoy doing. So instead of feeling like you’re setting aside an hour of free time to do “work” or get “physically active for your health”, it often times feels as though you’re setting aside an hour of free time for personal use.

This hour of free time for personal use is the time that you actually use for personal use. Just instead of maybe sleeping or sitting on your phone scrolling through Facebook you’re doing something good for your health and wellness. This can include all areas of our health and wellness, such as our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual parts, or it can include only one area. Either way this intentional hour you have chosen to use for engaging in self-care will be the hour to recharge yourself for the day, and motivate you to make a daily habit out of doing so.

There are a ton of reasons as to why I’m such a big supporter of engaging in daily self-care. I’ve even created a list of 50 of the best self-care activities anyone can do, but I’ll share my top 3 with you instead. [Read more…]

Controlling the Overwhelm: 10 Things to Do to Relieve Yourself of Stress

September 5, 2018 by Kimora Chanel

Feeling overwhelmed? Are you taking on more responsibility than what may be needed? Maybe you’re piling your plate up with more than what you can handle?

If this sounds anything like you I want you to know two things. One, you are not alone. I find myself doing everything I just stated above way more than I would like to admit, and way more than I should be doing. The second thing I want you to know is that if you can identify with anything I stated above, chances are you understand what it’s like to experience a great amount of stress, in such a short amount of time, as a result of overextending yourself.

This my friend has many names. Some that you may be familiar with are overwhelm, anxiety, and exhaustion. However, this feeling is most notably known as stress.

Stress is our body’s way of responding to overstimulation. When we experience a great deal of stress our body goes into defense mode. As a result of that we enter a “fight-or-flight” state of mind, better known as a stress response, which is our body’s way of protecting us.

Doesn’t sound too bad, right? Well it’s not, but if you’re a chronic stressor like me then you know that it can be very exhausting, and at times painful to constantly be under stress. There are many things you can do to help minimize your stress levels, such as squeezing a stress ball or even talking to someone about what’s going on.

However, while minimizing your stress levels is always a great start to experiencing less stress, it’s only temporary. To experience lower levels of stress more often your goal should be to relieve your mind and body of stress. To do this requires a little bit more effort, technique, and skill than just squeezing a stress ball or talking to someone. [Read more…]
