The Best & Most Unique Self-Care Activities to Help With Managing Anxiety & Depression Part 1

Self-care, it’s a very important and vital part of our health, yet many of us neglect it. There are many reasons as to why, but I’m here to tell you it’s time to stop neglecting it. Engaging in self- care has many positive health benefits. Not just physically, but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually as well.

Physically, self-care ensures that we are treating and fueling our bodies to the best of our abilities. Mentally, self-care ensures that we are doing everything in our power to live in a blissful state of mind. This means we are looking after our mental health, we are challenging our minds, and most importantly we are keeping our brain healthy. Emotionally, self-care ensures that we are making ourselves a priority. Life gets busy and things get in the way, but that’s never an excuse to not make time for yourself. Finally spiritually, self-care ensures that we doing our best to live authentically.

For years I have neglected properly taking care of myself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. A big part of this neglect was a combination of my severe anxiety and depression that I had sunk into as I experienced specific things in life. Another part of this was due to the fact that I didn’t understand what self-care was, or what it looked like. Together these two made me feel like taking care of myself wasn’t a priority, and so long as I wasn’t on the floor dying, I was ok.

I was wrong. [Read more…]

Stretch Before You Snooze: Why it’s Important to Stretch Every Night before Bed

Stretching, it’s one of those things some people faithfully engage in and some don’t.

But first…

Do you stretch every single day? Or maybe at least once a week? Are you a stretcher? I have a better question, one that may be easier to answer. When was the last time you stretched?

If your answer is “no” to any of the questions stated above, and you can’t recall the last time you stretched, we need to have a serious talk. Let me start off by saying that I too do not stretch as often as I should and would like to, but since incorporating stretching into my daily nighttime routine I am finding it easier to do so.

Like for most of you, the day gets very busy for me, very quickly. I get lost in all the chaos and distractions, and by the time the night rolls around all I want to do is go to bed, rest up, and get in a good headspace to start the next day on the right foot. As a result of this I use to work out during the day and end my day literally just plopping into bed. It’s life. It’s happens. I’m not judging, I hope you’re not judging, because at the end of the day we’re only human.

So it’s all gravy here!

However, it’s no excuse to not take that extra five minutes of your day to show your body, especially your muscles, some TLC at least once during the day. It’s taken me years to understand that, and about 2 years of hardcore dedication to drill it through my thick skull. It is because of my discipline when it comes to stretching that I’m sharing my knowledge about the importance of stretching with you! [Read more…]

The Positive Health Benefits of Doing Yoga

Yoga. Some love it, some not so much. Whether you are a yoga lover or simply a yoga doer (or maybe you could care less about yoga), there’s no denying that participating in yoga has many positive health benefits. I love yoga. I find it to be very relaxing, strengthening, and in some cases empowering. I haven’t always had a love for yoga. In fact it took me a very long time to find my rhythm with yoga.

When I use to practice yoga I always found that I was exhausted afterwards. Yoga is meant to be challenging, but not in a manner where you have exhausted all of your energy. After a yoga session I would be so exhausted that I always ended up falling asleep when I was done. As a result of this I didn’t really practice yoga as often as I wanted to because I didn’t like the idea of not having any energy to be able to do anything else afterwards.

However, two years ago I started practicing yoga once a week for an hour of day. Since it took me a while to find my groove with yoga, a lot of the same experiences I was having prior to practicing yoga once a week were still happening for me. I was finding that I was still exhausted afterwards and that all I wanted to do was sleep. It took me about 2 months of consistently practicing yoga once a week to be able to shake these effects from the practice. [Read more…]

The Many Health Benefits of Drinking Water: 6 Reasons to Drink More Water

Water!!!!

I know when you hear the word water the first thing that doesn’t come to mind is pure excitement. Trust me, I get it and I understand. For a very, very long time I struggled to get anywhere from 1-3 glasses of water into my system a day. This wasn’t because I didn’t necessarily like water, it was because in my household we always had pop, cool aid, or juice of some kind. Yes, there was faucet water but if you’re giving a 10 year-old a choice between sugary drinks and water…

Well I think you can relate to the outcome.

It wasn’t until 10 years ago when I started to get more serious about fueling my body with more water and less sugary drinks. I brought my very first water bottle and vowed to carry it with me everywhere that I went. So that’s exactly what I did. Having my water bottle with me all the time reminded and encouraged me to drink water. I know it may seem weird and ineffective, but I promise you it is really effective. It’s a mind game that you learn to play with yourself and somehow the only way to win the game is to drink all the water inside the bottle.

My 10 year journey of fueling my body with more water during the day by no means was an easy one. Of course there were many days when I had setbacks, big and small, but there were also many days when I was able to commit to drinking roughly 8 glasses, sometimes more, of water a day. All the ups and downs that I’ve had with increasing my water intake has taught me one very important thing…

Water is essential to our health. [Read more…]

Intentional Wellness Goal Setting: How to Make Them, Set Them, & Stick to Them

January 2, 2019 by Kimora Chanel

We have finally welcomed in the new year! That means it’s time to let go of all the things we did not accomplish in the past year, and look forward to all the things we hope to accomplish in the new year. We do this by forgiving ourselves for the goals that we were not able to achieve, and instead of dwelling or beating ourselves up over it, we look to all the many opportunities waiting for us now.

If you’re anything like me sometimes it can be hard to let those goals go, especially if those goals meant a lot to you. However, you have to remind yourself to look at the bright side, which is that not achieving those goals doesn’t make you a loser or a failure of any kind. It just simply means that you were destined to achieve something else during that period of your life.

So the first step to letting go of everything that you didn’t achieve last year, is by setting intentional goals that you can achieve this year.

Intentional goals are goals that are made with the intention of achieving them. These are goals that often times take a priority over all of your other goals. Goals that have a deeper meaning to you and serve a greater purpose for your life now and for the future you desire. These are goals that you without a doubt in your mind would absolutely love to be able to achieve, because they are essential to living a more fulfilled life.

In other words, intentional goals are goals that you are actively working towards achieving and completing every single day until you have done just that. [Read more…]
