Embracing Your Period

March 27, 2019 by Kimora Chanel

Today I have a guest post from Ellie. Ellie blogs over at The Better Period, where she blogs about how women of all ages can have a better period experience. If you’d like to learn more about Ellie and her blog be sure to check out her author bio at the end of this post!

Today I have something different for you all. We don’t talk about periods on this blog, but we do talk about the many different ways we can better our overall health. Well, guess what, our periods are a part of our health. That’s why today we are going to spend some time talking about it, and learning more about it and the way it impacts our overall health. And we’re going to do this with the help of Ellie!

May I ask you a personal question? How do you feel about your PERIOD? Yes, I’m shouting the word period at you because so often we talk about periods in hushed voices and behind closed doors. But we can change that! Periods are an amazing part of our bodies and our health. Therefore, it’s time to start embracing your period!

Even if you’re at a stage of life where you don’t get your period yourself or you’ll never get a period because of your gender, chances are there is someone close to you in your life who has their period right now! By having an understanding and appreciation for periods you can help to create a period positive environment for everyone in your life who has their period.

Today, I want to share with you some background about our failings in embracing our periods. Then I will share the three ways I believe can help you to embrace your period. [Read more…]

6 Type of Foods That Are Good for Your Health and Jump Starting A Healthier Diet

March 13, 2019 by Kimora Chanel

One of my health and wellness goals this year is to adopt a healthier diet.

I’ll admit I’m a junk food junkie. I love it all! The chips, the fast food (some not all), the sugary drinks (although I don’t drink a lot of it), and even the candy when I get a strong craving for it. Even though junk food was my first love, I don’t indulge in a lot of it (surprisingly). I never really have and it’s not because I don’t find it tasteful, because obviously I do, but it’s because too much of it does tend to make me sick.

Which I guess can be expected for anyone who indulges in a lot of junk food all the time. However, this year I really want to change up my eating habits.

I want to adopt a healthier diet and replace my cravings for chips of all kind and an endless supply of juice (especially orange juice), with healthier choices, like apples, carrots, and celery juice. As someone who lives in a household where junk food is always present, I knew this was going to be a challenge for me.

However, I am determined to succeed with achieving this goal.

I knew right off the back expanding my choice of foods was going to be a challenge for me. While I do love eating fruits and certain vegetables, I’m not an experimental, curious, or brave eater. I like what I like and that’s it! Which may or may not be hard when trying to adopt a healthier diet.

Thankfully, I have the perfect resources to help me get started with my new healthier diet, and actually commit to it.

Clean Eating and Unprocessed Foods: Do This Instead of the Latest Fad Diet!

March 6, 2019 by Kimora Chanel

Today I have a guest post from Breanne. Breanne blogs over at Essential Moves to Wellness, where she blogs about health and wellness, and living a chemical free life. If you’d like to learn more about Breanne and her blog be sure to check out her author bio at the end of this post!

If you’re thinking of going on the latest cleanse or fad diet, try unprocessed foods instead!

Dieting is one of the worst things you can do to your body because it’s temporary. If you shift your mindset to a lifestyle change, then you’ll get to a healthy weight and keep it there! Clean eating is one of the most sustainable ways of eating.

I’m here to tell you why. [Read more…]

10 Natural Ways to Boost Your Immune System

Hey there! Have you been having a tickling throat as of late? Or maybe you have a cough of some sort? Possibly the chills or a fever occasionally? If yes well honestly, it’s no surprise. The cold and flu season is upon us after all, and that means for some of us our immune systems are at risk!

Every year I always manage to get sick during this time of year. Thankfully it has always just been the common cold, and occasionally strep throat (which really sucks), but never the flu. In my defense though I usually only ever get sick after someone else in my household has been sick.

This year my nephew caught the bug first. I’m not sure where he got it from, more than likely from school, but he got sick bad. When I took him to the doctor, he said that he was in the beginning stages of pneumonia. Shortly after that learning of that I began to get sick. I too thought that I was going to be in the beginning stages of pneumonia, which would not have been fun because I’ve had pneumonia before, and I promised myself that I would never put myself in a position to get that sick every again!

Thankfully I wasn’t. My throat just ended up being really sore, I had a really hard, thick, and dry cough, and every time I ate something, I would end up just throwing it up.

Of course, stubborn little old me never went to the doctor to find out what was wrong with me. Instead, I decided to take a more natural way of curing myself from this cold. After making sure that my nephew had his medicine and was good to go back to school the following week, I started to focus on some small changes I could make in my daily health and wellness routine to beat this cold. I have major, major anxiety and it’s a battle that I deal with on a daily basis. Something I have noticed over the years is if I don’t take the time to care for myself when I’m feeling extremely anxious, it intensifies. When my anxiety is going out of control if I don’t engage in some form of self-care, depression will slowly begin to creep in. when depression creeps in, I’m glued to my bed for at least a week…

And that’s not good let alone fun.

All this to say that self-care is very, very important.
