The Journey Begins: 5 Tips for Staying Focused on Your Goals

January 5, 2018 by Kimora Chanel

One of my favorite things about starting the new year is the start of new adventures. Or for some, the continuance of an adventure already started, but new opportunities and discoveries to be made. I’m a mixture of both right now. With the new year starting I’m going to be starting a new adventure (sort of), as well as continuing one that I’ve been on for a year now!

First, continuing an adventure that I’ve already been on. I started taking an acting class in January of last year for two reasons. One, I have such a deep love and passion for acting. I’ve been in school for the past 5 years, and since that’s where a lot of my focus has been I wasn’t able to dive into acting the way I have always wanted to. Last year I decided that I was losing sight of what makes me really happy. I was losing my touch with balancing my life with work and play, and I wanted to change that. So, I decided that it was time for me to get back into acting (because it makes me happy and it’s so fun!), and figured taking an acting class would help me rediscover my love for it.

The second reason is because, I got accepted to participate in this exclusive acting competition/convention for the third time (third times a charm, right?), and I really wanted to go this time with fresh training under my belt. Actually, let me rewind. I was supposed to attend this event in January of 2017, but my money fell short so I was not able to go. However, since I had already been accepted, and started the training, I just got rolled over to the next one, which will be January of 2018. So instead of sitting around and being sad that I could not go when I wanted to, I decided to fill that time, loneliness, and space with acting anyways. So, I started taking an acting class. Starting Off the New Year with A Clean Slate

January 3, 2018 by Kimora Chanel

I can’t believe we’re already three days into the new year. It feels so unreal to me right now. I mean clearly, we just entered a new year and there are new adventures waiting for us up ahead. However, at the same time I feel like I’m still living the last couple of days in last year, reflecting on how far I’ve come.

Entering the new year is always like this for me. I spend the whole month of December reflecting on my past year. What made it good, what made it bad? What could I have done better, where was there room for improvement? Did I do everything I wanted to do? Simple but important stuff like that. All that reflecting leads me to anticipating what the new year will bring me. Will I have another opportunity to achieve the things I was not able to achieve last year? Will I find more success in the new year than I was able to in the last year? Again, really simply but important stuff.

Since I experience so much reflection and anticipation the last month of the year I guess I sort of just throw myself off for the last few days, and the first few days of the new year. I just always seem to find myself in this state of disbelief that we’ve said goodbye to yet another year, and hello to something meant to be better than the last.

I also always find myself in this weird phase at the start of the new year. I like to get all my goals lined up for what I’m going to accomplish in the new year on the very 1st day of the new year. However, once I have all my goals lined up, I get stuck on when to put those goals into action. Do I start on the 1st, or wait a couple of days? In the past I would have never given a second thought as to why I always get stuck on when to jump start my yearly goals. However, this year I’m doing things a lot differently, so deciding when I’m going to put them into action is an important piece of the puzzle that I must know and understand. [Read more…]

Don’t Make New Year Resolutions Make New Year Goals

January 1, 2018 by Kimora Chanel

As we say goodbye to last year and hello to the new year I’m setting the intention to change my life for the better this year.

Every year I follow the New Year tradition of making resolutions. These resolutions are usually something that revolve around what I want my life to look like for the next year, or something personal about myself that I would like to see change. Now, don’t get me wrong I don’t think there is anything wrong with this tradition. In fact, I think it’s really awesome that like most people, I enter the new year with all these dreams, goals, and ambitions that I want to see myself achieve in the new year. However, if I’m being honest, I never follow through with any of my New Year resolutions. Not a single one.

The tradition of making a New Year resolution(s) goes as followed. You make a resolution(s) on the first day of the new year, and that resolution(s) is to serve as your overall intent for the New Year. Resolutions can be anything. There is absolutely nothing specific about them except what you specifically intend to achieve in the new year. For some people their resolution may be to lose a specific amount of weight in the new year, like 30 pounds. For other people their resolution may be to finally go backpacking in Europe. Whatever your resolution(s) have been in the past years, or whatever they may be in the new year, they’re always a little hard to keep and follow through with.

Right? I can’t be the only one who never follows through with their New Year resolution(s). I’m not saying that there aren’t people who do follow through with their New Year resolution(s), because of course there are. More power to those people! However, I know that despite that there are probably more people who don’t follow through with any of their New Year resolution(s). At least not for the whole year! You may see it through for the month of January, or a couple of months throughout the year, but you’re not seeing it through the way that you intended to. There isn’t any consistency with that resolution. If this is you, please do not be ashamed, embarrassed, or feel guilty in any way, because I am one of them too. [Read more…]

Year End Review: Reflecting on This Past Year

December 27, 2017 by Kimora Chanel

Goodbye 2017 and hello to the future!

Another year has come and gone and I just can’t believe how fast the time has flown by. Like every year when the end of the year finally arrives, I’m excited to say goodbye to the past and hello to my future. I believe that each year we grow, learn, and become better and stronger versions of ourselves. Sometimes it’s in small amounts, sometimes it’s in large amounts. No matter how big or small that growth may be, we still grow from who we use to be.

This year for me has been no different. I have grown, I have learned a lot more than I thought I ever would, and I have become a better and stronger version of myself when it comes to stepping into my power. I have been more vocal, more aware, more active, more spontaneous, and all of that has made me a happier person. Growth is important and essential to becoming the best version of yourself that you can possibly be. So, as we approach the new year I wanted to take some time to reflect on this past year, and see how far I have come on my quest to becoming the best me that I can be. [Read more…]

Holiday To-Do & Wish List!

December 13, 2017 by Kimora Chanel

We’re almost there! With each passing day we are getting closer and closer to Christmas! I love that this time of year really promotes the idea of giving more than it does receiving, and that we should all embrace and spread love. That’s what makes Christmas such a fun and enjoyable holiday for me. Not necessarily the presents or the food (though those are some major gingerbread points for the holiday!).

Christmas is all about being selfless and spreading that positivity and love to others. I have complied two lists that I would like to see more of this holiday season in my personal life. The first list is a Holiday To-Do List, which is just a list of things to “do” before the holiday season is over. By “do” I mean more of a psychological and emotional doing than it really is a physical doing. The second list is a Holiday Wish List, which is a list of things that I am personally wishing for this holiday season, in the hopes of speaking them into existence in the new year. [Read more…]
