My Morning Wellness Routine

June 19, 2018 by Kimora Chanel

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILATE LINKS. PLEASE READ MY DISCLOSURE FOR MORE INFO.

Fun fact: I’m more of a night owl.

However, for some odd reason I always find myself operating as if I’m an early bird. Which in all reality I’m not. I would so much rather be up all night and sleep all morning, than to be up early in the morning and sleeping during normal hours. Not that there is anything wrong with sleeping during normal hours, because there isn’t. If anything, I applaud the people who prefer to sleep during normal hours, and who actually sleep during those hours. Sleep is a very important part of our health and our mind, bodies, and souls will always thank us when we get a full 8 hours of sleep.

However, my body just doesn’t function like that and if I’m being honest I’m actually really happy that it doesn’t. I’m happy because as I mentioned getting a full 8 hours of sleep is good for our health. With the crazy busy schedule that I have going on currently in my life I need to get at least 6 hours of sleep every night. Most nights I’m able to get a full 8 hours, but at the very least if I’m going to have a busy night with playing catch up with school, I strive for 6 hours.

Even though I am more of a night owl I’m happy that my body prefers to wake up and greet the day early in the morning. I’m happy because as much as I enjoy being awake watching Netflix at 2:00am, the fact of the matter is that it’s a struggle for me to even make it that far into the night these days. I always find myself trying to stay up at night simply because it’s the only time during the “day” when I get to have a little bit of me time. However, every night it always fails because I’m usually in bed well before 1:00am. [Read more…]

5 Things I Wish I Could Have Told Myself When I Was 21-years-old

June 6, 2018 by Kimora Chanel

There comes a time in our life where we reflect back on what our “younger” days were like. Lately I’ve been doing a lot of self-reflection about where I currently am in my life, what my current goals are, and where I am ultimately aiming to take myself in the future…currently anyways.

With all the reflection that I’ve been doing I’ve been having mini flashbacks to when I was in college and I thought I had my whole life planned out. Well maybe not my whole life but I definitely thought I had a solid 5 and 10-year plan. Turns out I was only right about one of those things that I had set in stone for my future over the course of these past couple of years, and that was that acting was going to be a part of my future. Everything else, like going to graduate school and starting a blog, just sort of happened by chance due to the many changes that happened in my life. Where they planned? Most certainly not. Did they take me somewhere closer to a future that I had envisioned for myself? Definitely.

Here’s the thing. I always had this vision of success in my life. Now I know that success can mean and look different dependent upon who you are what you have actually accomplished in your life. Success is not a specific thing, it’s flexible and measurable upon the individual. Success for me has always been living the life that I want for myself. That for me looks like doing things that I want to do with my life, allowing the people that I want in my life be an important part of my life, and not living my life the way my parents did and still do. That’s a story for another time, very soon, so stay tuned 😊. [Read more…]

Four Effective Ways I Take Care of My Mental Health

May 30, 2018 by Kimora Chanel

Man, these past couple of weeks have been super busy for me! I started a new class in my graduate program, I’ve been working hard with putting the finishing touches on my graduation project from my acting class (it’s a little bittersweet), and I’ve been dealing with end of the school year/the start of summer break activities for the little 5-year-old in my life. Needless to say, I have been busy! So, let’s spend some time catching up with one another.

Fist graduate school. I still can’t believe that I am going for the gold. I’m getting my PsyD (Doctor of Psychology Degree) and it still hasn’t hit me that I’m actually doing it. I thought I was done with school after I got my Master’s. I did a pretty good job convincing myself that I was. Somehow my mother managed to talk me into continuing on to get the highest degree possibly, and somehow like I fool I managed to fall for it. I don’t regret it…most days, but I know ultimately it will be an accomplishment I will be glad I followed through on. It’s just right now with how busy my life is and everything that I’m trying to do and keep up with, school just seems to sort of be in the way. Luckily, I go to school online so I can get the work done on my time when I have the time. That creates less pressure and allows me to have more space to fill up the free time that I do have fulfilling other commitments in my life.

I value education everyone so please don’t get me wrong, but if you’ve been in school YOUR WHOLE LIFE, and I’m talking preschool to elementary, to junior high to high school, straight to college and graduating in four years, straight to graduate school and getting your Master’s in a year in a half, and then right back to graduate school three months later with at least another two to three years ahead of you…then you know exactly what I’m talking about! It sounds exhausting, it was exhausting writing all that out, and it’s exhausting even thinking about it! But all it’s all for a greater purpose. So even though at the moment I’m over being in school, I will see it through because I wouldn’t have made the commitment if it wasn’t going to benefit my future.

Happy Mother’s Day: 3 Important Life Lessons I Learned

May 14, 2018 by Kimora Chanel

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers, mothers to be, or mothers who are no longer present with us. Mother’s Day is all about appreciating your mother and the female role models in your life who have been mother figures to you. Due to this sometimes this holiday can be an emotional one, for many people, for various reasons. This day can also be a very celebratory one for others again for various reasons. Whatever the case, I think it’s important to acknowledge that this day will impact you in some way (whether you are a mother or not) because it will teach you something about womanhood.

For me Mother’s Day happens to be a little bit of both, emotional and celebratory. Here’s why.

It’s no secret that I don’t have the best relationship with my mother. Well it’s not secret if you know me in person and you know about my life experience with my mother (which if you don’t you’re going to learn a little bit about). While I do love her very much, and I am really protective of her, and very appreciative of everything that she does for me and the family, she hasn’t always been the best female role model for me. In fact, for a really long time she wasn’t a female role model for me at all. If anything, she was a role model for the type of woman I should not strive to be. [Read more…]

How to Stay Motivated & Create Motivation for Any Situation

May 10, 2018 by Kimora Chanel

Jeremy wrote…

How do you stay motivated even when everything isn’t going your way or things seem to always pop up? Or is there a way to create motivation even when it is hard for a person to get motivated?

Kimora’s Advice…

Motivation I believe is the key to success. Well, motivation and determination, but you need to feel motivated in order to be determined to reach a goal, and you also have to be determined to reach that goal in order to have some kind of motivation to get there. So essentially the two go hand in hand, you can’t really have one without the other. With that being said I believe there are a couple of ways you can stay motivated and create motivation regardless of what your current circumstances may be. [Read more…]
